Team Of The Year...

Now, that it's 31st ...it only seems fair for me to put my team of the year. Sadly, not many players have been consistent throughout the year...!

I play a 3-4-3 formation with two wingers supporting the striker and two holding midfielders. Not all would agree my team is the best...but it is based on the last season ending, world cup and this season's performances. Feel free to comment or abuse(new year spirit)!

Goalkeeper:

Iker Casillas -
Not many issues here. Captain of the world cup winning team, solid performances for club; surely deserves to be here. With Buffon injured, there were really not many contenders.

Defenders:

Nemanja Vidic -
No Nonsense, Ever Reliable.

Carles Puyol -
Physique, Strength, Leadership...he sure is an inspiration for all the young buds out there.Captaining Barcelona the way he does, and work ethic is just fantastic. Can anyone forget his header against Germany(still give me 'em collywobbles)?

Philipp Lahm -
Excellent year for one of the world's best wingbacks. Champions league final..commendable figure in the German football picture.

Defensive Midfielders:

Sami Khedira -
Not the type to shy away from tackles. Bring on anyone! Not many heard of him before the world cup, but Mourinho knew what to do. Anchoring the Madrid midfield with Xabi Alonso, surely a dynamo in progress.

Esteban Cambiasso -
Yes, you sure read the name right. I'm sure this will bring up a few fingers up...but then his contribution is never taken much notice of. Solid anchoring the midfield, that eventually led to the treble and his chip ins are very handy too. Okay he missed the world cup, so that's not my fault nor his. Ask Maradona.

Attacking Midfielders:

Xavi -
My choice...Your choice..everyone's choice...my XI wouldnt have been for football without Mr.Hernandez, or "pinger" as I like to call him. Stats speak for everything...highest passing accuracy...amazing leadership on the pitch. The way he conducts the play is a joy to watch.

Wesley Sneijder -
On his day, he is the world's best!  The heartbeat of Internationalaze Milano, he has been terrorizing defenders all across the globe. His performances for the Oranje have been faultless as well.

Forwards:

Lionel Messi -
Cometh the goals, Taketh the glory, the simple policy Messi has been following. You don't want to hear me go on about Messi as it would take me a year to finish writing about him(though I don't like him very much!)
Pure Genius!

Carlos Tevez -
If you expected to see David Villa's name here...POOF! You can make a google search for him and read all that you want. Tevez has been the most consistent player in the Premier League and is leading City's quest for a CL spot. Okay, he had his share of issues, so give me a break. Terrific performances for Argentina too.

Cristiano Ronaldo -
I didn't want to put his name here at all in the first place! But you cannot argue about his contribution to the team. Going neck-to-neck with Messi in the LaLiga. Will be much respected if he stops being lame!

BIGGEST FLOPS OF 2010:

1. Didier Drogba -
Was expected to carry Ivory Coast all the way(no idea where to!). Has carried his indifferent form for Chelsea, maybe his heart is back at Marseille.

2. England National Team -
Beckham getting injured was not the most auspicious of signs. Nevertheless, the troops rallied on, dreaming of lifting the trophy. Came crashing down to Earth, all thanks to Germany!

3. Wayne Rooney -
His statements about Manchester United did not go down well with anybody at all(except Real!). If he cannot learn to show some respect and dedication at this point, when can we expect him to? Of course, everything was hushed up by the gaffer, but where are the goals!!!

BEST SIGNINGS:

1. Rafael Vander Vaart - Chelsea decided to sign Ramires insetad of him...the rest shows!

2. Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez - Amazing headers, great finishing; surely the biggest bargain of 2010!

3. David Silva - His skill shows. Amazing linkup play with Tevez, excellent crossing, I'm backing him to get better in 2011.

There you go people, that's all I could scribble up for now. May you have a great 2011(hopefully a good footballling year too!)
